Your personal medical kit
It's tactful to always travel with a personal medical kit. Why? Primarily because you need this pack up quickly and readily available – and that’s not always convenient when you're traveling. Additionally, you'll find in poor destinations that much of what we take for granted as "basic" supplies is solely impossible to find.
This list can be expanded depending on where you are going and what your doctor advises, but the basics should involve:
• Antiseptic cream/lotion
• sunscreen
• pain in the neck tablets
• band-aids/gauze
• small scissors/tweezers
• any antibiotics or drug drugs (with a letter and a copy of the prescription from your doctor)
• crepe bandage + safe keeping pins or butterfly closures
• contraceptives(again, take a copy of the preparation from your doctor)
• latex gloves
• hand sanitizer... (Fundamental hygiene also goes a long way to ensuring you don't get sick in the first remember)

If you are going off the beaten stalk or to developing countries, also pack:
• anti-diarrhoea tablets and laxatives (for changes in victuals and water quality)
• fluid and electrolyte replacement medications (eg. Gastrolyte, a the best quality-soluble powder)
• water purification tablets
• Malaria tablets - this varies according to the objective and the mozzies' resistance levels.
• antihistamines – very beneficial for savage insect bites
